Participants will learn 4 learning objectives. Learning Objective 1- after hearing about current, related research on the state of children's health, participants will be able to identify at least 3 serious diseases of lifestyle that are now highly prevalent in preschool children. Learning Objective 2- after hearing the related research on the current state of children's eating habits, fast food consumption and marketing, participants will be able to evaluate children's current eating habits and design anti-obesity eating strategies for the school day. Learning Objective 3- By viewing videos on different components of fitness and taking part in the movements participants will be able to identify the essential activities of a beneficial preschool physical fitness program and why each is important. Learning Objective 4- by watching a live tutorial on how to use a preschool fitness instruction activities database participants will be able to select appropriate activities for their classrooms. The goal is to create a simple, effective physical fitness curriculum that can be implemented in the classroom immediately.
Competencies addressed:
TP 14.1 Can identify the importance of physical health and development across all curriculum areas. Includes the importance of outdoor and indoor time and using both fine and gross motor skills.
HSN 4.1 Can explain how daily routines for rest/sleep and physical activity/play are developmentally, culturally and individually appropriate to children's needs.
HSN 8.1 Describes culturally responsive curriculum-based activities that focus on the basics of nutrition, physical wellness, and health care using an anti-bias/anti-racist lens.
