At the core of every basic decision we all make is problem solving. What skill could be more useful and pervasive? Yet we often assume that children know how to problem solve and make decisions. How do we teach children to make decisons quickly, easily, and creatively? Research has shown that problem solving/decision making skills are present in resilient children. By developing and fostering higher order, critical thinking skills children will have sound and intelligent ways to respond to choices and conflicts.

This interactive workshop will introduce participants to the "Ten Wise Ways" based on the BrainWise curriculum developed by Dr. Patricia Gorman Barry. The curriculum combines research from medicine, education, and the social sciences creating a format that teaches children, teens, and adults how to develop problem solving/decision making skills. The "Ten Wise Ways" allow children to consider differences, options and possibilities, allow them to deal with the consequences of their decisions and enable them to become competent and confident individuals. The training will focus on the principles and concepts of cognitive and brain development to increase awareness and enhance and support the healthy growth and resilience of children.
